Collaborating to Hone the Details of Your Story

  Writer@WordsforStories.com
Upon opening the edited version of the article and reading through it, I was so impressed with your skill. There wasn't a single recommendation that I didn't agree with, and I really love the way you made the article flow. In all our opinions, . . . your editing really brought the article together in a powerful way.

On behalf of all of us, another huge thank you for your time and sharing of your talent/skill. It has been such a pleasure working with you

The Details of Your Story: A Partnership

How will we work together to polish your nonfiction story?

Contact me at Writer@WordsforStories.com. We can chat by email or, at your preference, arrange a brief voice conversation. If we decide to collaborate on the details of making your true story the best version of itself, we'll enter into a written agreement that clarifies our expectations of each other.

My services include
  • professional, trained copyediting* and proofreading,
  • researching, fact-checking, and updating information, or
  • writing original, relevant online content that is reader focused (and can also address SEO).

*Copyediting doesn't have a universal definition, so here's what mine addresses:
  • mechanics and grammar
  • internal consistency
  • factual consistency that can be quickly checked
  • word usage, redundancy, wordiness, and unintended repetition
  • awkward sentence construction
  • sentence and paragraph length that affects readability
  • biased language that isn't integral to the story or dialogue

My copyediting isn't developmental, structural, or stylistic editing. Those editing levels deal with big-picture issues and substantial revisions, including overall style and tone. And they're the editing that happens before the story gets to me.

I'm the detail person. If I make a style or tone suggestion, it will be small
—suggesting a different word here, moving a short phrase there. Working with me is tweaking rather than overhauling.

Throughout our collaboration, I'll provide
  • the necessary time and attention to produce quality work,
  • professionalism in all aspects of our work together, and
  • complete confidentiality and privacy regarding our business arrangements (names in client testimonials are used only with express permission).

A SPECIAL NOTE ON PRICING:

I believe in transparency; and in working with me, it's not true that if you have to ask, you can't afford it. However, each project, timeline, scope, and level of need is different. The types of services I provide aren't standardized, so—although I know it would seem convenient for my prospective clients—I'm not able to post a standard rate sheet. I appreciate your understanding and look forward to discussing your unique requirements with you.

Once I have enough information, I'll quote your project as a fixed fee based on your individual needs, and we can agree on a turnaround time that takes into account the work required, the necessary time window, and my current workload and backlog. Thank you!
